In The City

© 2004 Fort Creek Songs

I'm back.  This one dates back from when I lived in Toronto.  It's in an alternate tuning and I can't actually remember how to play the whole song  but it's a neat little snapshot of where my head was at at the time.  I'm trying to shoehorn it into standard tuning and maybe present it to Porter.

At the intersection
Hanging in the sky
Woven by the streetcars
The electric spiderwebs, they keep me from floating away
In the city

The sidewalks here they all have birthdays
Stamped into their hardened face
They remind me of how long I've been here
And the failure of not leaving a trace
In the city

Chorus:
But oh oh oh
I hear it calling
From my hometown
Now I'm walking
In the city

The streetlights sing above me
And stapled to the pole
They whisper come and join us and we'll share with you our troubled souls
In the city

Chorus:
But oh oh oh
I hear it calling
From my hometown
And now I'm walking
In the city

The searchlights swing above me
And sweep across the sky
They're searching for the constellations
That I can never seem to find when I'm floating around
In the city

Chorus x 2:
But oh oh oh
Hear it calling
From my hometown
And now I'm walking
In the city
